All students need to know how they learn. It is important that that knowledge does NOT classify them or label them or limit them. Their knowledge of individual learning styles helps them take ownership of who they are as students and what steps they need to take to grow stronger in less comfortable areas. Our talented teachers at Goshen Friends witness and embrace those different ways of learning everyday in all of the classrooms. The Learning Pathways program, introduced in September and informed by Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences: New Horizons, makes the process more formal and gives each teacher further opportunities to share those learning findings with parents and students.
When children study a subject about which they are passionate, the results can be amazing. This fall, the fourth and fifth grade students each selected an area of study that spoke to their individual interests. Working independently, each child's goal is to create a presentation that they will then share with their schoolmates. The Independent Study program at Goshen Friends is a progressive, individualized learning experience. (Read more.)
